savory bolognese pasta

simple. cheap. delicious.

serves 2-3

ingredients

  • 1 lb spaghetti pasta

  • 1 lb ground beef/ ground sirloin

  • 4-6 cloves of fresh minced garlic

  • 1 shallot, roughly chopped

  • EVOO

  • 1 T dried parsley

  • 1 T dried oregano

  • 2 T dried basil

  • 2 t dried cumin

  • 1 t paprika

  • 1 T S + 2 t P

  • 1 T crushed red pepper, don’t be shy if like that spicy game ;)

  • 1 28 oz can San Marzano Tomatoes

  • 2 15oz can tomato sauce

  • fresh grated Parmesan cheese

  • fresh basil, roughly chopped

Coat bottom of pasta pot with EVOO and sauté minced garlic and chopped shallots over medium heat until golden.

Add ground beef and spices.

Once beef is almost cooked through, add tomato cans.

Let simmer on medium-low heat for approximately 45 min to let all the juices blend.

Cook spaghetti according to package instructions.

Plate spaghetti and top with meat sauce, add freshly grated Parmesan and fresh chopped basil. These are non-negotiables.

PRO TIP: The longer you simmer the bolognese sauce the more delicious it becomes, so bump that 45 min time up to 2-3 hours to really savor all those flavors!
